Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's early attempts to mainstream stardom were fruitless with two record labels signing and then dropping her before she had any new material released. Capitol Records did release Perry's Ur So Gay, which garnered modest attention in 2007 due to its jolly title. She made a greater splash a few months later, with the track I kissed a Girl an assertive ode to sexual desire backed by a hard-edged electronic-pop beat. The song caused controversy many critics claiming it of promoting the same-sex relationship and others asserting that the explicit sexual scenario depicted was designed for men's fantasies. I Kissed a Girl became an international number-one single because of its mix of titillation with a polished tune. The song also assisted her to sell more albums, such as One of the Boys. With its bouncy sharp-tongued second single Hot N Cold also proving to be a hit, the album which Perry wrote herself eventually registered the sales of over three million copies in the United States.
